The Fleming family's roots in Swan Valley run deep. Shane Fleming was born in Swan Valley as a sixth-generation member of a family whose connection to the valley spans more than a century. His father, Larry Fleming, worked on the construction of Palisades Dam before the family moved away for many years. Nearly 50 years later, Larry and Trillis returned home to Swan Valley, followed shortly thereafter by Shane and Lorre and many other family members. Today, multiple generations of the Fleming family once again call the valley home, continuing a long tradition of supporting and giving back to the community that has meant so much to their family.

The Fleming Barn Party is an annual charitable fundraiser hosted by Shane and Lorre Fleming at their barn in Swan Valley, Idaho. Since its inception around 2014, it has become a beloved community event that draws hundreds of attendees for a fun-filled evening of live music, food, dancing, auctions, and fellowship, all aimed at raising substantial funds for local nonprofits and causes.

Each year, the party spotlights a different beneficiary (with occasional additional support for others). Past recipients have included the local school (e.g., raising $36,000 in one year for programs like reading and STEM camps), the Greater Swan Valley Fire Department (funding equipment like a new Rescue 1 apparatus), Camp Magical Moments (“Cancer Camp”), Champ’s Heart (an Ammon-based equine therapy nonprofit providing free healing experiences with horses for children with special needs, veterans, first responders, and survivors of trauma—over $128,000 donated in one recent year), the South Fork Initiative for river restoration, and more. For 2026, the primary beneficiary is the Safe Foundation, alongside others to be announced. The event consistently sells out and has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in total impact for Swan Valley and surrounding eastern Idaho communities through community spirit and generosity.

It’s a heartfelt example of rural Idaho coming together to support essential local services, education, health, and conservation efforts.
